Current Tasks:

  1. First rfb-dev-kit tests with Zn-I chemistry at CCL, repeat Daniel’s results, mark official rfb-dev-kit release, FBRC blog post

  2. Large-format cell and flow frame

    1. Initial design with FreeCAD (mostly done)
    2. Order 2D components from manufacturer ASAP (current collectors, endplates)
    3. CFD on flow frame, try printing it while waiting for 2D components
  3. Draft a paper (woo)

Still printing

Accidentally printed wrong wall thickness on flow frames—tidied repo so this won’t happen again. Wall thickness is 0.7 mm now. Ran out of PP adhesive material so I am printing the latest version of the jig in PLA while I wait to be able to redo the flow frames in PP.

FreeCAD work on large cell

Repo is here. Looks like this at the moment:

Same approach to sealing and general construction as the dev kit. Time will till if that works; will test with water to see. May need to use an adhesive/sealant and/or different type of gaskets/o-rings. Should be able to change the flow frame significantly and not need to change the endplates/current collectors.

This is designed to have a 20 cm side length flow frame to print on common FDM printers, larger may be possible (for larger FDM print beds) but we’ll have our hands full for now seeing if this approach can work.

Will test initially with 1/2” plywood as endplates, 1 mm brass current collector, to be cheap and relatively eco-friendly as design is likely to change. Flow frame currently is 175 cm2 active area, at 30 mA/cm2 that’s 5.25 A of current 🤠—we won’t be able to use the MYSTAT anymore.
